here is an awesome review written by Joseph!!
"P.J.B., which at times stands for "Psychedelic Jam Band" and other times "Paul Joyner Band," has been a staple of the Washington D.C. post-punk and indie live circuit. Promising completely improvised music with a strong dance atmosphere, the group is known in the Virginia/ D.C./Maryland axis as one of the best and most constantly engaging live acts. This release documents a particularly strong lineup of the group, here a three-piece consisting of Paul Joyner, his brother Miles Joyner, and Sum Of Heroes founder Andrew Wondju. The entire cassette consists of one long track, and it is a marathon session that these guys have embarked upon. Opening with a quick sort of disco rhythm, the beginning of the track is extremely manic and filled with a very rapid succession of melodic saxophone and vocal samples projected by frontman Paul Joyner. Extremely boisterous, and gradually shifting into a very relaxed and astoundingly thick groove. The music chills out significantly and gets into a very powerful and subdued section. The second movement starts out very minimally and shows off some rather impressive militaristic drumming that carries the track into another insane excursion into the outer limits of rock and techno.
PJB's music hearkens back to the 1970's, having as much in common with German experimental rock of that era as it does with Fela Kuti's Afrobeat or Giorgio Moroder's disco. However, PJB alchemizes these disparate elements into a unique and new sound that is not quite like anything that has come before. Another comparison would be perhaps Miles Davis' 1970s electro-funk band playing in modern times on a bill with indie-rock groups. Every now and then there will be a guitar sound or vocal inflection that will betray the American indie background of this project, but for the most part these are full-on aggressive jams that sound like they could have come from the Congo or Egypt circa 2055 AD. Most of the sections of this release are driven by the eerie and addictive samples provided by the younger Miles and fleshed out to perfection by Paul's precise and insane feats of drumming.
This is a very interesting and enjoyable incarnation of this project. This group seems to be going in a very interesting direction, and future releases promise to be completely mind-blowing. As it stands, this is a powerful document of soul-stripping and floor-destroying funk. Very heavy and steady music for people looking for something that is dance-worthy and a little bit on the weird tip. Recommended for adventurous listeners."

okay. so we should have left out that last sentence from the previous update. in the past 3+ months:
- slowfidelity.com was down at one point
- we played a show in duo form (uhh.. october 4th or 5th?) at the lighthouse (r.i.p.) with LAYNE GARRETT (who is awesome)
- whoa and now i remember a week before that we had a Velvet Lounge gig opening for MAGNETIC BAND (also in duo form)
- we programmed a bunch of shit aka "wrote some new songs" and we're working with new hardware, software, and formulas
- the weather has chilled... well, now it's just cold
- we completed a new EP
yes, that's right. new shit. it's actually in our hands right now. more info soon, and this time i really mean soon.
MONDAY JULY 27, 2009
we played a show last night, sorry if we didn't tell you about it. it was with MOON PIE, BOY WITH ROBOT, and GOOD WEATHER. all of the bands were good, and very special thanks to the band Moon Pie for letting us play a show at their house. several nights prior to the show Moon Pie treated us at their house to pizza and very special brownies, so thank you Moon Pie. also thanks to LAYNE GARRETT and all of the people at the lighthouse show last weekend. it was a blast. so everyone, believe it or not this summer is winding down to a close. it might be safe to say there will be no more public PJB performances this summer but if that changes I should let you know. maybe we will play a show next month, but late August is when RKSPX will be going back to Cincinnatti and PJ will be leaving to go on tour with one of his other bands, so you should stay in doubt. don't worry because the fall will see new releases from Psychedelic Jam Band, we have a bunch of recorded material that has yet to be mixed and mastered. more on that soon. keep checking this site every couple of days for updates.
FRIDAY JULY 3, 2009
thank you to everyone that came out to the last-minute benefit show in Takoma Park. thank you to DADDY LION, MOON PIE, SKY PLANT, and all of the other musicians that helped raise money for Save Darfur. also extra-special thanks to the ELECTRIC MAID collective. we just got added to a show in the coming weeks

SUNDAY DECEMBER 14, 2008
wow so here we are at the end of such a memorable year. so much can be said. isn't that incredible? you may question what will be going on with a psychedelic jam band in the two thousand and nine. a good way to find the answer would be to take a look at what's going on now. what's going on now? taoh and pj both workin on their own respective solo projects (stupid amounts of time spent mixing/listening to the same song over and over again), also there is recent activity of the dc metal club nihilith. does that mean things are at an end? no pjb in '09? of course not. first off there is this
FRIDAY JANUARY 9TH 2009

PSYCHEDELIC JAM BAND

yes, an awesome show at our home current base of operations. after that we have a new president and we will be downtown in the action, unfortuneately not playing, but having fun nonetheless. also keep in mind we do have a CASSETTE TAPE that is still very much available! order that from the slow-fidelity. well, thank you very much for reading this blog/update, the very first one for this new website layout! we hope you enjoy it.
